About Lernwerd
Lernwerd is a dictionary with a built-in learning loop. Look up rich word cards, then practice with spaced-repetition review so vocabulary sticks.
What is Lernwerd?
Built for language learners who want quick lookup and a structured way to remember words. English is the first vocabulary we focus on; the app interface can follow your language in Settings. Use the dictionary when you meet a new word, add it to your learning queue when you are ready, and review on your schedule. Progress stays on your device.
Dictionary lookup
Each word opens as a card with definitions, examples, pronunciation, and related information from open lexical sources. Search and browse the word list to find vocabulary at your level.
Spaced-repetition learning
The review queue schedules words using spaced repetition so you practice retrieval at the right intervals. Grade each card honestly; the scheduler adjusts when you will see the word again. Learning is active recall, not passive scrolling. Open the queue when you are ready to study.
Your data stays local
You can use Lernwerd without creating an account. Learning progress, preferences, and personal notes are stored on your device in the browser, not in a Lernwerd cloud database.
Optional Google Drive sync lets you back up and restore progress on another device. Your learning data is stored in a private folder in your Google Drive, not on Lernwerd servers, and only when you explicitly save or load.

Lernwerd is built from openly licensed lexical and example data. We list every source shipped in the current build below.

derived frequency bands only
Word frequency information in public builds uses derived frequency bands only. Raw corpus counts from proprietary sources are not redistributed.
